Boys Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Winter Awards Week: Jesus Vasquez and Anita Lara Awarded the 2016-17 PSAL Soccer League MVPs

The Private Schools Athletic League held their Winter Post-Season Sports Meetings last week, where all of the coaches from the league meet to vote on 1st Team All-League, 2nd Team All-League, League MVP, and PSAL Honor Coach.  The League MVP is awarded to the best player in the league in that sport for that season, as nominated and voted on by the other coaches.  This year, KSJC had two athletes selected as the MVP of their leagues.  For the third time in four years, Senior Anita Lara was recognized as the PSAL MVP for Girls Soccer, making her the most decorated athlete in KSJC history.  For the first time ever for a KSJC Boys Soccer Player, Senior Jesus Vasquez was recognized as the PSAL MVP.

We asked both of them to share some reflections on the season below:

What did you enjoy most about the season?

AL – “What I enjoyed most about this season is having a new experience with the freshman that came in and played. They had never played and just through practicing, they got the experience that we needed.”

JV – “What I enjoyed about this season was that I got to play with the people that meant a lot to me. I played with my friends that I been playing since freshman year, met new people, and got to start a new journey with some new people.”

Why do you feel that your team was so successful?

AL – “I feel like our team was successful because we would give it our all and we would practice and give it our all and play as a team when it came to soccer games.”

JV – “I feel that our team was successful because everyone was working hard, and everyone was on top of each other every time we had those meetings. No one would put each other down. Everyone was trying to be a champion.”

Why do you feel that you individually were so successful?

AL – “As an individual I think that what was successful was playing as a team, communicating with each other and just getting along because it made us just play better.  It was fun for us.”

JV – “It was successful because since it was my last year here playing for the high school team I gave it my all. I didn’t like losing.”

What was your favorite moment this season?

AL – “My favorite moment was beating the team in the final that has beat us already.  It was our first time that we had beat them. “

JV – “My favorite moment of this season was playing with everyone that I love, playing with my 2nd family, and accomplishing something getting to the final my last year here. “
