The PSAL Board of Managers voted to ratify the PSAL All-League Award recipients on Thursday, November 1st, 2018. The coaches from the league for Cross Country and Volleyball voted for the PSAL Honor Coach Award. The PSAL Honor Coach Award is given to a coach that demonstrates excellence in 1-4 of the of the following characteristics:
- Maintenance of Profession Standards of Conduct
- General Service to the Respective Sport
- Outstanding Coaching Accomplishments (not necessarily focused on win/loss record or championship titles)
- Role Model and Inspiration/Motivation to Athletes, Coaches, Fellow Teachers, Administrators, Parents, and/or the Public
This year, KSJC had two coaches recognized as their respective sport’s Honor Coach: Jack Monagle for the PSAL South for Volleyball and Ryan McCormack for the PSAL for Cross Country.
Coach Monagle has helped lead the volleyball program to their two best league seasons in school history with back to back winning records in his two years. More importantly, he helps in setting a high level of academic standards where 100% of his team maintained academic eligibility over the course of the past two seasons. Since coming on as a coach three years ago, Volleyball has become one of the more popular sports on campus with one of the highest number of tryout participants of any sports. This award is shared with his tremendous staff: Coach Reza, Coach Christianson, and Coach Lockett. This is Coach Monagle’s first Honor Coach recognition.
Coach McCormack has helped to build the Cross Country program into a perennial contender over the last three years, qualifying for their third straight Central Coast Section Finals. Participation in the sport has increased a great deal (now the largest team on campus), and the team has maintained high academic standards where 95% of all team members have maintained their academic eligibility over the last three years. This award is shared with everyone that has contributed to the coaching staff over the last three years: Coach Hansen, Coach Dela Rosa, and Coach Reed. This is Coach McCormack’s third Honor Coach recognition, having been recognized as PSAL Boys Soccer Honor Coach in 2014 & 2016.
Howl on, Wolfpack! Howl on!
